Montpellier

Sorry for the lack of posts! I only have 14 more days left in Paris and have been scrambling to get things done before the end of the month. On a happier note, I avoided the terrible weather that most of Europe had last week by going to the south of France with some lovely friends. We spent most of our time in Montpellier, which isn't the number one tourist destination in France, but it's still worth a visit.

The coastline isn't as spectacular as Nice or Brittany, but it makes up for it in giant sandy beaches!
This is also a great spot for cheap seafood and fruit. We ate all the fruit before we could take a picture.

The city is nice. It has large boulevards (and apparently the largest pedestrian square in Europe although we all found that highly suspicious).
There are still parts of the city that have the old narrow streets.
And of course it wouldn't be a French city without an Arc.
The guy in the green shorts was acting highly suspicious and wouldn't leave the girl in the black shorts alone :)
There is a good vantage point on the highest point of the city.

We also made a day trip to Nimes. Perhaps if you were to purchase something from Nimes you would say that this certain something is from Nimes (or in French 'de Nimes'). What am I talking about? You may have to check back later to find out!

San Sebastian

I'm in the south of France writing about the north of Spain, not too bad! I'm late posting about San Sebastian because I've been a good busy. This picture is to show that it was hot, something that I haven't experienced in Pairs in the last few days

San Sebastian is in the heart of THE Basque Country. People here are not afraid to remind you that you are not in Spain, you are in Basque Country. At no point did I see a Spanish flag. The city is extremely lively, plus it's right on the ocean, how can you not fall in love with it!

The Basque flag flying proudly.

You can climb up a mountain and have a drink at the top with a great view.

The tapas will remind you that you are still in Spain but here they call them Pinxtos! Usually it's self service, which takes a bit to get used to. Deep fried chorizo wrapped in bacon served between a baguette anyone?

Here is another thing that took a while to get used to. You are suppose to throw your napkin on the floor when you are done. You can tell a place has good pinxtos if there are a lot of napkins on the ground (or that it is a terrible place that rarely cleans their floor).

Being in a city by the beach makes me happy, but also sad that I'm moving back to a city that is thousands of kilometres away from the ocean :(

Black and Pink

Tee - H&M; Skirt - BCBG; Shoes - Zara; Purse - Marc by Marc Jacobs; Bracelets - The Bay; Earrings - Gifted

Here's another skirt/croptop combo using a black and pink colour palette. I love how the two colours are so different yet go so well together. Just a short post today as we are on route to Montpellier!

French Basque

It wasn't long ago that we were in Bordeaux and just south of Bordeaux is French Basque Country, so we ended up taking pretty much the same train. Basque people speak a very unique language and have a very unique culture. Most importantly, they make delicious food. Our first stop in Basque Country was Bayonne. It was +26 so we took the free bikes provided by the tourist office and rode down to the beach.

There is a huge Spanish influence in this part of the country so beer and sangria  are as popular as wine.

Bayonne itself is a cute little city. It's much more colourful than Bordeaux to the north.

This is a traditional Basque stew. We ate at a wonderful restaurant where an old Basque lady both served and cooked the food. Thank god she misunderstood DJB and only brought one of these, the portions were massive.

You can't go to the Basque Country without eating Basque Cake!

....or having a Basque digestive.

This region is also very famous for its ham. Basque ham is like prosciutto.

Little Basque Cakes with little Basque flags.

Our last night was spent in the luxurious Biarritz. This is where we went surfing for the first time! Bucket list - check! The town itself is nothing special, but the beach and people on the beach are beautiful!

Not only is there French Basque country, but there is also THE Basque country, which is in Spain. More on that later in the week!
